Acrylics

I am particularly interested in dramatic light and strong contrasts, these themes seem to have run through all of my work over many years. My subjects are varied, I enjoy figurative work and coastal views although recently I have been fascinated by our local allotments. If I paint on location I tend not to work on the painting back in the studio, experience has taught me to leave it as I saw it and avoid changing it. Having had the dicipline of learning watercolour this influences my painting methods in the studio. I decide what I want to achieve before I begin any painting, and  all the development of ideas goes on in my head and small sketches before I start, once I then begin the painting, I rarely change direction.
