In this painting, Terry uses lovely rich colours to portray the intensity of the Tuscany landscape. The background hills form a distant haze of blues ,mauves and greens, contrasting with the clean shadows on the buildings.
Notice the reflected light on the buildings giving them a glowing warmth.
Each of the foreground poppies had to be masked out first and all individually painted after the green was applied.
Terry loved painting poppies, despite them taking so long to paint.
